Right now there is a universal longing for closeness, and I’ve been clinging on to every little fragment of human connection I can forge from this time of isolation. The memories of warm spaces filled with moving people are almost fleeting, but ‘Conversations’ is the song that keeps these feelings vivid, keeping that lull of indecipherable voices and smiles from strangers still within my grasp. Taylor Wafford (cka Blood Root) has a way of writing that will ignite you, taking you back to your dearest nights spent in that dive bar they call a venue, shouting and swaying with the strangers turned best friends for the night. ‘Conversations’ is gilded in endless layers of dreamy vocals and a chorus of rolling drum beats, elements of pop and folk laced throughout that all build up to an eruption of harmonies that I've found tumbling off my tongue for days on end. There’s a whimsical nature to this track, mimicking that sort of out of body and almost divine feeling that I'll never again take for granted. Even the sweat and clumsy folks spilling their drinks and bass so loud it clears your sinuses, never again will I not take it all in, soaking it up with every filling of my lungs. It’s that sense of community that Wafford perfectly recounts, everyone walks into these spaces for different reasons. Some come to scream and dance and release whatever they may be carrying in their chests, and others come for those sweet smiles from people they don’t know but share the common interest of just being there, separate but still intertwined.
