As someone who fully experiences unnecessary nostalgia on the daily, The Big Moon has filled a very specific–yet harrowing‒British pop punk shaped hole in my heart. This London based four-piece has been sound tracking my life for the last few weeks with their new record ‘Walking Like We Do’. Each track is a stunning mosaic of all that grit, reminiscent of an early 90’s Liz Phair, and laced with whimsy style synth. Opening track ‘It’s Easy Then’ jumps headfirst into a hypnotic symphony of vocal harmony, setting the ambiance for the rest of the record with a shouty chorus and triumphant horns and strings. So far my favorite track is the introspective ‘Take A Piece’. Over and over I have found myself giving so much of my heart to others and taking on their pain as if it were my own, this sense of empathy has become my greatest strength and weakness. Screaming alone to lyrics that resonate so strongly with me, ‘I'll give you everything until there's nothing left to need, cause I need you so much more than I need me’, has proven to be the perfect release, allowing myself to let go of some of that extra weight that sits right on my ribs. This is one of those records that I will never grow tired of, remaining absolutely timeless and a representation of all the magic from past decades of music, as well as every one to come next.
